Requirements
Maintaining Alabama Professional Logging Manager (PLM) status requires a minimum of five hours of approved continuing education every year. There is no retiree status.
All continuing education must be approved for Continuing Logger Education (CLE) or for Continuing Forester Education (CFE) to count towards PLM renewal.
Credit will be granted for the following:
- Organized course work or activities in forestry or forestry-related topics including sustainable forestry principles and the SFI program, best management practices, reforestation, invasive species, forest resource conservation, government regulations, protection of wildlife and wildlife habitat, public policy and outreach or emerging technologies. Included are seminars, short courses and workshops.
- Organized coursework or activities in logging or logging-related topics including best management practices, aesthetics, special sites, logging safety, employment laws, transportation issues, business management and emerging technologies (including logging equipment). Included are seminars, short courses and workshops.
- Field tour involving forestry/logging operations. Travel time is not included in the credit hour calculation.
- Logging equipment show/expo. Credit accrues at the rate of 1 CLE credit for 3 hours of participation in the show/expo. (Maximum 2 CLE hours credit per year)
Credit accumulates at the rate of one-hour education for one hour of credit for all seminars, short courses and workshops.
Up to three hours for nationally accredited first aid/CPR training will be given; an actual card must be submitted for credit. (available every other year)
One hour credit will be given for holding an elected or appointed office or active committee assignment in a logging or forestry-related state or national organization.
Credit will not be given for online duplicate classes in a two-year time period.(revised 12.2016)
